Non-household Water Efficiency Innovation Fund

This includes:

• a description of the site where the project will be delivered
• what water is typically used for at the site
• current usage volumes
• patterns of use (daily/seasonal)
• the usual number of people at the site
• any baseline water use data you might have.

This includes:

• a summary of your project
• how it will save water
• any innovative elements to your project
• a delivery schedule
• the timeframe for water saving benefits being realised
• when you will provide reports to us on the savings
• project risks and how you will manage them.

This includes:

• the amount you are requesting
• contributions from other sources (if applicable)
• a breakdown of costs
• a funding schedule (where appropriate).

This includes:

• projected total water savings
• how water savings will be calculated/estimated
• the source of these calculations
• how confident you are in the accuracy of your calculations (please justify).

If you’re looking for funding but this doesn’t seem like the right fit, you might want to consider our other funding programmes.

We will consider funding up to £25,000 per application.

A board of experts from across Wessex Water will assess all applications and select the projects that best meet our requirements and offer strong value for money.

Projects that can deliver water savings within a year of award will be prioritised, but we also welcome applications with longer delivery timescales.

Your project must cost £5 or less for each litre saved per day. See an example of how to assess a project’s cost-effectiveness below.

Example

You want to apply for a grant of £10,000.

You estimate your project will save 5,000 litres of water per day.

Use the following calculation to work out your savings:

£10,000 / 5,000 litres = £2 per litre saved each day

This is below the £5 limit, so your project meets the criteria.

Please note that savings are per day, not cumulative.

Where the requested funding amount exceeds £10,000, we would look to schedule funding in phases. A funding schedule is how you would propose breaking down those payments.

This is to reduce the risk for both parties. You would not deliver large amounts of work without receiving payment, and we won’t be handing over money ahead of schedule.

Yes. Please submit as many applications for different sites as you’d like.

Any project we fund will be audited, so we will need a detailed report once the work has been delivered.

Specific requirements for reporting will be agreed on a case-by-case basis. This gives us the flexibility to fund a wide range of projects.

We may expect to see the following:

Site details   

• site address  
• site operational hours    
• staff on site   
• visitors to the site   
• number of each relevant point of use. 

Intervention details 

• date of intervention  
• number of each item retrofitted  
• total number of leaks fixed (broken down by location)   
• total number of people engaged
• specific details relating to other types of intervention.   

Supporting data  

• pre and post meter reads  
• logger data if available   
• research to support assumed savings.   

Output   

• total amount of water saved (l).
